IMPACT OF DEMOCRATIC
LEADERSHIP STYLE ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
Introduction
According to Anderson
(1959) democratic leader is one who encourages, participation in decision
making and relates with higher morale in most leadership situations.
Democratic leadership
increased follower productivity, satisfaction, involvement and commitment
(Hackman & Johnson 1996).
In developed nations, the democratic leadership
style is one of the most effective. It helps employees feel valued, gives them
a sense of ownership over their position, and motivates high productivity. this
style of leadership tends to have work groups that were very productive and
subordinates showed a high degree of satisfaction on the job.
Today, most corporate cultures can be
seen benefiting quite favorably from employing democratic leadership style it.
However, it is vital for the management to strike the perfect balance and
consider alternatives in situations where the style can most probably fail.
This is the reason why it is advised for companies to weigh both the benefits
and disadvantages of democratic leadership before incorporating it into operational
procedures and other business.

Conclusion
Comparing on other leadership styles, democratic
leadership style has a significant positive impact on employee performance. When
democratic approach is applied, performance of employees would increase.
therefore many leaders encouraged to adopt democratic leadership style and
involve team members in the decision making process since it is confirmed that
performance of employees is the best under that style of leadership. leaders should encourage innovation, team work
and creativity that leads to job satisfaction, increased productivity and increased
performance.
Recommendation
Organizations need to
have highly capable leaders to lead
their employees in daily operation and accomplish the organizational goals. Democratic
leadership style has greater impact than
other leadership styles in terms of employee
performance. In order to stay in the competitive business environment, it is recommended that
the right leader with high capability be identified at all levels of the
organization. Organizations, should make use of the recommendations to adopt
democratic leadership instead of other leadership style. It should be known that
employees are the most important asset in the organization, and employee performance
highly depends on leadership style. Organizations with good
leadership capability will
further improve performance.
Therefore, serious attention
should be given to make leadership a higher priority
